Victories, friends,
and the final sprint in the shipyard
Spring has truly arrived. And with it, an April full of everything: victories, many friends, and the last frantic work in the shipyard. In a few days, our IMOCA will finally see the sea again.
01
Spi Ouest France — The taste of victory
The month started in the best possible way. Ambrogio was back on the water aboard Amarris, his friend Achille Nebout's Class40, for the Spi Ouest France. Not an offshore race this time, but a series of coastal courses held over several days — a different, intense format that leaves no breathing room.
And in the end: first overall. A hard-fought victory, after a real battle. Bogi was radiant, having rediscovered something that was missing: the taste of winning. As well as a great chemistry with the crew.
02
Ian Lipinski — A friend returns from around the world
Mid-month, a boat arrived in Lorient, bringing with it a great story. Ian Lipinski returned to port after winning the Globe 40, the round-the-world Class40 race. A beautiful, well-deserved victory.
Ian is one of the first friends Ambrogio made in Brittany when he left Italy to move to France. For years they raced side-by-side in Class40, rivals on the water and friends off, and sometimes even on the same boat: together they won the Normandy Channel Race in Class40. Seeing him return from that round-the-world race as a winner was a special moment for everyone.
Well done, Ian.

Shipyard — How many parts does a boat have?
Hard to answer precisely. Many. Innumerable. And in April, they all had to be put back in their place.
After months of dismantling, structural modifications, moving the foil casings, lightening, and new livery, April was the month of total reassembly. Every system, every component, every detail: everything had to return on board, in the right place, at the right time.
All while the painting work was not yet completely finished. Some areas of the boat were still inaccessible while others were being worked on. We moved like tightrope walkers, fitting the jobs together, without stopping. The goal is clear: launching on May 4th.
04
Bogi's chair
Amidst all this, there was also time for a small craft project that cheered up our skipper.
Ambrogio wanted to redo the navigation station. The previous one had been removed to lighten the boat, but something new was needed: simpler, lighter, and with a dual function — seat by day, bed by night.
He started from the beginning: computer design, then a wooden prototype to test the measurements. Finally, the definitive version, made with foam and carbon, with the help of Bastian and Mika. A small feat of ingenuity, a bit of craftsmanship, some laughter in the shipyard. Exactly the kind of project Bogi likes.
05
Trophée BPGO — 800 miles in Figaro
Towards the end of the month, Ambrogio embarked on another adventure: the Trophée BPGO, 800 miles all around Brittany, double-handed with Thomas De Dinechin on his Figaro. It was only Ambrogio's second race in this class. The fleet was very numerous: 35 boats, 70 skippers, many come from IMOCA, many are Figaro specialists.
Starting from Concarneau under the sun, Bogi and Thomas immediately placed themselves in the leading group. Conditions were very tough. Then a strategic error in northern Brittany made them slip to 15th position. The last few days were spent climbing back up, struggling, with the cold not letting up.
In the end: 5th out of 35.
«The Figaro... oh my goodness who invented it. No, really, I'm so happy to have finished. It was a really tough race, two intense days, a lot of wind, water everywhere. I'm still cold just thinking about it. Cold feet, cold everywhere... it gives me shivers. But it was a wonderful race. For the whole way out we were in the leading group, first, second, third all the time. Northern Brittany, the rocks, the currents... you see the rocks passing by you and off you go... Quite adrenaline-pumping. Then we made a strategic error, silly because we were already in the leading group, there was no need to risk anything. But we did. So the last few days were a struggle to climb back up, I ache all over. But here we are, 5th/35. Thanks Thomas for these 4 days on board and congratulations to PRB for the victory, they deserved it.»

Final sprint — Our way
We lived the last weeks of the month at full throttle. Everyone at the shipyard, even on weekends. The reassembly proceeded in parallel with the final touches of painting, every day something was fixed, something was added, something was tested.
It must be remembered: these were not simple maintenance works. We have entirely revolutionized our IMOCA. New position of the foil casings, new foils, new livery, lightened boat, redesigned systems. We made it our way.
«We have entered the last week of shipyard before launching. The stress and fatigue are starting to be felt. We are a young team, but in these months we have begun to build strong bonds among us; despite this, some small moments of tension are always possible. There are really only a few details left: the foil area is finished and we are reassembling the systems. Carlos is passing all the sheets, Clément is taking care of all the electrical part, and each of us is helping in the best way according to their skills. In a few days we will all gather around a beer and can finally admire our boat in the water!»
— Enrico Bandiera, Technical Director
«It's the end of the first Allagrande Mapei shipyard, and what a shipyard! Most of the team members had never worked together before — everyone had to find their rhythm and learn to collaborate to become a team. Once the boat is in the water, another challenge immediately awaits us: to be ready for the start of the Vendée Arctique, next June 7th, in Les Sables d'Olonne.»
— Alice Poursain, Team Manager
Being ready by May 4th is already a great feat. Being ready for the Vendée Arctique, on June 7th, that is the goal. The whole team is putting everything into it. And they are proud of it.
