Sustainability

A mindful approach to ocean sailing.

Project

Beyond the Sporting Challenge

Allagrande Mapei Racing is an ocean racing team, and as such has developed a strong awareness of the fragility of the environment it inhabits.

The project includes specific work on sustainability, developed together with Bianca Bertolini, environmental engineer and program manager.

Today, our sporting project is ambitious, and we feel the responsibility to develop it in a respectful and conscious way.

The goal is to pursue our sporting activities while reducing their impact as much as possible, both on land and at sea. At the same time, we want to add even more value to all the miles we cover, collecting data for science and reporting on the changes in our seas.

Science

Marine Scientific Research

Contributing to scientific research by collecting oceanographic data.

Throughout the 2025 season, the boat was equipped with an instrument capable of filtering water while sailing and collecting microplastics along the route.

Sampling was carried out in different areas: Atlantic Ocean, Mediterranean Sea, English Channel, and North Sea.

Numerous filters were collected during the season and are currently being analyzed in collaboration with the Politecnico di Milano. The work was carried out continuously during navigation, with the aim of collecting as much well-distributed data as possible.

The results of the analyses will be published in the coming months.

Impact

Environmental Impact Assessment

Quantify project emissions to develop targeted reduction strategies.

LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) studies are underway to quantify the project's environmental impact.

The goal is to identify the most impactful phases and sectors, in order to develop a concrete plan to reduce emissions.

The Ocean as an Educational Tool

Leverage the project's communicative megaphone for awareness-raising activities.

Through interventions with schools, associations, and research institutes, the adventures of Ambrogio and his team become a tool to illustrate the evolution of the oceanic environment, encouraging more and more people to understand, respect, and protect it.
