Portsmouth, August 17, 2025 - “Allagrande Mapei” and Beccaria set off for the second leg of The Ocean Race Europe 2025 at 4:55 PM local time (5:55 PM Italian time), heading to Cartagena, Spain.
This decisive leg spans 1,400 nautical miles, with double points at stake and complex weather conditions. Crews will have to manage two important transitions before the Fly-by in Matosinhos (Portugal), in addition to the strategic passage of Cape Finisterre and the Strait of Gibraltar, the gateway to the Mediterranean.
Forced to withdraw after a collision at the start of the first leg of The Ocean Race Europe (TORE), Ambrogio Beccaria, together with his extraordinary Allagrande Mapei Racing team and experts from TR Racing, managed to be on the starting line for the second leg. A testament to collective resilience and determination is displayed on the new outrigger, where the motto of main sponsor Mapei stands out: “Never stop pedalling.”
"For me, just being at the start of the first leg was a victory. Being here for the second is another," says Ambrogio Beccaria. "We have been through difficult months, and now it's about getting the machine started, building a series of good results. The goal is simple: to reach the finish line with this crew, this team, this boat, this sponsor. I really want us all to be together at the finish in Cartagena, after a great leg. The sporting aspect is obviously essential, but I also want to enjoy the moment, sail without major setbacks, and savour being at sea."
A sentiment shared by young Manon Peyre, just minutes before leaving the Portsmouth pontoon: "There's so much desire to get back to sea, to sail. Being here feels a bit unreal. It's crazy to see the whole fleet reunited again. Of course, there's also a bit of apprehension... We already felt it during the transfer because we had two breakdowns one after the other. You know something can break: it's in the back of your mind."
With this new leg, the team faces a demanding race but also has the opportunity to rediscover the pleasure of competition: “We will be ready to fight at sea; we are here to give our best. Each leg is a race in itself,” says Ambrogio Beccaria. And Manon adds: “It's back to race mode; we're here, let's go!”
