Bio

Ambrogio Beccaria (Milan, 1991) is one of the leading Italian offshore sailors of his
generation and founder of the Allagrande Mapei Racing project. His career is characterized by a path built with technical rigor and a constant pursuit of performance, which has led him to excel in the most important international offshore races. Beccaria also represents a role model for the new generation of sailors, due to his ability to inspire young people, both in competition and in a more conscious relationship with the Ocean and wild nature.

Beccaria became involved in sailing thanks to the VelaMare school, which he attended from a young age, imitating his older sister. His first competitive experiences came in youth classes, where he achieved significant results, including winning an Italian Championship and a third place at the European Championship in the Laser 4000 class. From the outset, his talent and determination, which would become the distinctive mark of his sporting career, were evident.

The decisive transition occurred in 2013, when he entered the Mini 6.50 circuit, the class that represents a true school of solo offshore sailing. Here, Ambrogio built the foundations of his experience: he bought and rebuilt a damaged boat, renamed it Alla Grande Ambeco, and within a few months led it to victory in several races of the Italian circuit. In 2016, he also emerged internationally with a second-place overall finish in Les Sables–Azores–Les Sables, winning a leg with a record time.

2019 marked a historical turning point: Beccaria won the Mini Transat, becoming the first Italian to triumph in this historic solo transatlantic crossing. This result definitively propelled him among the protagonists of offshore sailing.

In 2022, he began a new chapter with the Alla Grande Pirelli project, a latest-generation Class40 designed and developed entirely in Italy. In the same year, he achieved second place in the Route du Rhum, the only non-French sailor to reach the podium in his class, and secured another second place in the Défi Atlantique.

2023 was a season of consolidation at the highest levels: he won the Normandy Channel Race with a crew and, notably, the Transat Jacques Vabre in the Class40 class, bringing an Italian boat back to success in this race after more than fifteen years. In the same year, he also participated in The Ocean Race as a crew member of Team Holcim PRB, further expanding his experience in high-profile offshore competitions.

In 2024, he added another prestigious result to his palmarès by winning the Transat CIC (formerly OSTAR), becoming the second Italian in history to achieve this. Alongside his sporting activity, he participated in a rescue mission in the central Mediterranean aboard Emergency's ship Life Support, confirming a commitment that extends beyond the competitive dimension.

At the end of 2024, he announced his transition to the IMOCA 60 class, with the goal of competing at the highest levels of offshore sailing and qualifying for the Vendée Globe. In 2025, the Allagrande Mapei Racing project was launched, marking the beginning of a new sporting cycle in one of the most advanced and competitive classes on the international scene.

A nautical engineer by training, Beccaria approaches offshore navigation with a direct and conscious approach: understanding of systems, attention to detail, and progressive development of performance. A vision that combines technical expertise, decision-making ability, and endurance, essential elements for competing in the extreme conditions of offshore races.

A central figure in the so-called "new Italian oceanic wave," Ambrogio Beccaria is today one of the leading protagonists of
international offshore sailing.

In November 2025, he published his first book, Mare selvaggio. Storie di vita e di vela (Wild Sea. Stories of Life and Sailing) (Mondadori), written in collaboration
with Matteo Caccia, in which he recounts the human and sporting journey that led him to offshore sailing. In parallel, for several years now, he has been sharing the more technical side of this world through his Instagram profile, where he curates a dedicated section, "La gazzetta del cammellone" (The Camel's Gazette): a space highly followed by his community, offering insights and genuine lessons in strategy and meteorology applied to offshore navigation.
