Allagrande Mapei Racing
Défi Azimut 2026
Lorient · 15–20 September 2026
The Défi Azimut is the annual gathering of the IMOCA class in Lorient. The event combines three distinct challenges: speed runs, a 48-hour solo offshore race, and a tour of Groix Island. It's an important technical test to evaluate equipment and compete directly with the fleet — less than six weeks before the Route du Rhum.
It's also more than that. Lorient is home — the headquarters of the Allagrande Mapei project. Everything is close at hand here: the team, the shipyard, the partners. The Défi Azimut is one of those moments when sponsors and guests can come aboard, see the boat up close, and understand what it means to be on an IMOCA. A sporting event, but also a meeting opportunity.
The three events
Wednesday, Sept. 16
Speed Runs
Straight-line sprint in the strait of Groix Island. The principle is simple: go as fast as possible, as a team, on a timed stretch. A pure test of speed.
Thurs. 17 → Sat. 19 Sept.
48H Azimut
Solo offshore race. The most technical event, with an on-board reporter (OBR). The decisive showdown before the Route du Rhum.
Sunday, Sept. 20
Tour de Groix
Coastal race around Groix Island, with crew. It's the closing of the event, accessible, a true celebration.
The OBR contest — with Lorenzo Sironi
The 48H Azimut is sailed solo, with an on-board reporter (OBR) tasked with capturing the best images and videos of the event for the Défi's social contest, where the public votes for their favorite photos and videos.
Our OBR will be the talented Lorenzo Sironi. Since 2023, from the Class40 period, he has been one of the media persons for the Allagrande Mapei project — it is often thanks to him that we can share the most beautiful images and videos with our followers. This will be his first time as an OBR on board during a race.
