Traffic separation scheme

South of Scilly TSS

South of the Isles of Scilly, the scheme separates ships passing between the Scillies and Brittany, heading into or out of the English Channel. Together with the scheme to the west, it moved heavy traffic further offshore and left an area around the islands that ships carrying dangerous cargo must avoid. It is the closest to the route between Ushant and the Scillies: a boat heading north west after the start may find it in its path.

Category: Maritime trafficCorridors where merchant ships travel in lanes separated by direction, like on a motorway. During the race they are closed to the boats.
